Emptying his brain is his morning ritual, a blank sheet of paper and writing for 15 minutes, then coming back in 15 minutes and reflecting on what he wrote. Self awareness is key to understanding what, and why he is doing whatever he does daily. Also giving himself a sense of accomplishment with the endorphin rush from ticking things off from his list of actionable items first thing in the morning. Finally controlling his inputs helps to ensure the outcome he desires will become reality.
